The treasures of the Rauris Valley

The Rauristeral is one of the most diverse valleys in the Salzburger Land

So it’s hardly surprising that it has so many different names. The following treasures are not far from the Hotel Alpina. And wait to be discovered by you.

The treasures of the Rauris Valley

The valley of the vultures

A majestic species can be observed particularly well in the Hohe Tauern National Park. All you have to do is turn your gaze upwards. The Rauris Krumltal – also called “Valley of the Vultures” – is known for its royal inhabitants. With a bit of luck (and binoculars) you can see golden eagles, griffon vultures and bearded vultures in the wild.

But even if you fail to spot one or more kings of the sky, you can still observe falcons, owls and eagles up close at the latest at the birds of prey show on the Hochalm.

The valley of gold

Rauris has a golden history. For a long time, the valley was considered the center of gold mining in Austria. Today you and your family can try to empathize with this time. At two gold panning sites – surrounded by idyllic nature and with the guidance of experienced treasure hunters – you can look for gold.

The valley of the springs

If you are looking for water, you will find it in the Rauris Valley. More than 300 natural springs, imposing waterfalls and crystal clear mountain streams are at home in this beautiful part of the Hohe Tauern National Park. Experience the splashing, rustling, pattering and roaring in many different ways in the Rauris Valley.

Our tip: In the Hüttwinkl valley, a short hike takes you directly to the Rauriser UrQuell. The natural spring is a real place of power that invites you to switch off with a small circular path, drinking water fountain and seating.

Rauris jungle

A real natural gem awaits you in Kolm Saigurn. The Rauris Primeval Forest is a centuries-old, natural fall forest that has over 80 dark ponds, fall spruce, stone pine, lush green mosses and romantic clearings in store for its visitors. Children in particular are always enthusiastic about the nature trail that has been set up there.

Comfortable hiking trails lead from the jungle towards the head of the valley. There you have a breathtaking view of the highest mountain in the Salzburg region with its weather station from the times of the emperor. Here high alpinists meet pleasure hikers with a Kaiserschmarren in one of the ancient inns.
