The annual Rauris Literature Days take place in the Rauris Valley from 2026-03-25 to 2026-03-29.
Where words move mountains – once a year, the idyllic Rauris Valley becomes a meeting place for literature lovers, writers and creative minds from across the German-speaking world. The Rauris Literature Days are among Austria’s most renowned literary events – and have been for more than 50 years.
A place of history and stories
Between old farmhouses, snow-covered peaks and warm hospitality, big names on the literary scene meet young talents. Whether readings, panel discussions, author talks or the presentation of the Rauris Literature Prize – everything here revolves around the power of language.
Every spring, Rauris once again turns into a hub of the Austrian literary scene.
Each year, authors, literature enthusiasts and critics come to the picturesque Rauris Valley to discuss language, stories and worlds of thought amid the impressive mountain landscape of Hohe Tauern National Park.
The Rauris Literature Days are considered one of the country’s most important literary events and offer a varied programme: readings by renowned writers, exciting debates and the presentation of the prestigious Rauris Literature Prize.
In the inspiring tranquility of the mountains, space is created for in-depth conversations and new perspectives – a celebration for all who love the power of words.
The readings take place at special locations in the valley, e.g. at the Mesnerhaus, at the House of Encounter, or in small, atmospheric halls where you can experience literature up close.
Readings
Since its founding in 1971, the Rauris Literature Days have presented authors from across the German-speaking world every year and introduced them and their books. Since the mid-1990s, a theme has been at the centre each time, one that is particularly frequent in contemporary literature
and explored in as many different ways as possible. The main events of the Literature Days take place in the evenings: readings and talks about current books that relate to the central theme.
Some of these readings are organised as collaborations with Salzburg literary organisers:
with Literaturhaus Salzburg, the “Leselampe” Literature Forum and the “prolit” literary association.
Since 1992, guests from other languages, countries and cultures have also been invited to the Literature Days time and again:
authors who came to the Salzburg region from the Basque Country via Iceland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovenia, Bosnia, Albania, the Maghreb,
from Israel and Korea, Mongolia and Malawi, and presented their texts.

From March 25 to 29, international authors will read from their latest books; we also offer an extensive accompanying programme, including five talks with students as well as readings in schools.
This year, the Rauris Literature Prize goes to the well-known Swiss musician, singer and composer Sophie Hunger, and the sponsorship award to Andreas Neuhauser.
