Holiday Resolutions for 2026 – Why Your New Year Should Begin in Raurisertal

The new year is here – and with it, all those good resolutions. Less stress, more time for yourself, getting out into nature more often… Sound familiar?
The good news: You don’t have to turn your entire life upside down. Sometimes the right holiday is all it takes to reorient yourself, recharge, and clear your mind.

We’ve compiled a few holiday resolutions for 2026 that are not only easy to implement – but also genuinely beneficial.

I’m Taking More Time for Myself

In everyday life, we often neglect ourselves – caught between appointments, obligations, and everything that needs to be “quickly taken care of.” Yet true relaxation begins precisely when you allow yourself to simply have nothing to do.

At Hotel Alpina Rauris, you’ll find the perfect place for this: a comfortable room with views of the snow-covered mountains, the scent of Swiss pine in the sauna, the gentle rippling of the indoor pool – and above all: time that belongs entirely to you.

Whether you sleep in, read a book, or simply gaze quietly out the window – these moments are not trivial. They are important. And they are exactly what you should treat yourself to more often in 2026.

I’m Treating Myself to New Experiences

2026 is your year for fresh impressions – and they’re waiting right outside the hotel door. Raurisertal is made for unforgettable winter moments that you may never have experienced before.

Whether you’re trudging through the snowy forest on snowshoes for the first time, taking a romantic horse-drawn sleigh ride, or discovering Hohe Tauern National Park from an entirely new perspective on a guided winter hike – here, every day is a small adventure.

And the best part? Everything is optional, nothing is mandatory. You decide what appeals to you. Perhaps a ski day on the peaceful slopes at Rauris ski resort? Or would you prefer an afternoon by the fireplace with homemade cake? That’s also an experience – for the soul.

Because new memories often emerge in moments you never planned. And at Hotel Alpina, there are plenty of those.

I’m Taking Deliberate Breaks – Including Digital Ones

Hand on heart: When did you last truly switch off – not just your phone, but also your mind? In a world full of push notifications, calendar reminders, and social media scrolling, it’s often difficult to find peace.

Yet that’s precisely what makes a digital break so valuable. At Hotel Alpina Rauris, you can consciously put everyday life on “mute.” No constant ringing, no deadline pressure – instead, genuine silence, crisp mountain air, and that very special tranquility that only winter knows.

Perhaps you’ll leave your phone in the room, pick up a book instead, enjoy a cup of tea after your sauna session, or watch the snow fall. It sounds simple – but it’s often exactly what we need.

And who knows: Perhaps it’s not the next post that does you good – but the moment entirely without a screen.

I’m Spending More Time with People Who Are Good for Me

In our stressful everyday lives, there’s often too little space for those who matter most to us. A conversation happens in passing, shared experiences are postponed to “someday.” It’s high time to change that – and quite deliberately.

A winter holiday at Hotel Alpina Rauris is ideal for reviving this special time: a shared walk through the snowy landscape, hearty laughter while sledding, or a leisurely breakfast without time pressure.

Whether with your favorite person, the whole family, or your best friend – here, memories are created that last because you truly take time for one another.

And the best part? You don’t have to plan anything. No shopping stress, no tidying up, no cooking. You can simply enjoy – and focus entirely on the people who warm your heart.

I’m Recharging in Nature

When your head is full and your thoughts are racing, often only one thing helps: going outside. Into the fresh air, into the expanse, into the silence. And that’s exactly what you’ll find in Raurisertal – one of the most pristine regions in Hohe Tauern National Park.

Here, winter has its own special magic: snow-covered forests, glistening meadows, frozen streams, and crisp mountain air that you feel with every breath. While winter hiking, snowshoeing, or simply taking a leisurely walk through the valley, you’ll find exactly what’s often missing in everyday life: peace, grounding, and genuine connection with nature.

At Hotel Alpina, you have nature right on your doorstep – and thus the best opportunity to recharge. Without pressure, without a program – just you and the moment.

Because sometimes a step outside is also a step toward yourself.

I’m Investing in Quality of Life – Instead of Things

Sometimes it’s not new purchases that truly move us forward – but the experiences that touch us. Instead of quick consumption: mindful time, genuine memories, and the feeling of being fully present with yourself again.

A stay at Hotel Alpina Rauris is exactly that: an investment in your well-being. In moments full of warmth, lightness, and tranquility.
Instead of overflowing to-do lists, a daily rhythm awaits that follows only your own pace. Instead of hectic rush: a good meal. A smile at breakfast. A ray of sunshine on your skin.

And in the end, you take home more than souvenirs: new energy, positive thoughts, and the quiet promise to yourself to listen to your intuition more often.

Because true quality of life begins exactly where you feel comfortable – and give yourself space again.

Experience Tradition – Living Customs in Raurisertal

Unique in Austria: The Rauriser Schnabelperchten

When the people of Rauris clean their houses and apartments spotlessly at the beginning of the year, it has nothing to do with New Year’s resolutions. Rather, we are preparing for the visit of very special guests: The Rauriser Schnabelperchten go from house to house on the evening of January 5th, looking for every speck of dirt. Those who keep things clean have nothing to fear.

Very quietly, you hear a “Ga-ga-ga” and then the strange figures are already standing before you, seeming a bit eerie. Their appearance is somewhat reminiscent of a bird – as the name suggests, they wear a large beak, which consists of peasant linen formed into a beak with the help of wooden rods.

They also wear old patched smocks and knitted jackets, along with Dotschen (Pinzgau house slippers). Traditionally, only men wear these costumes. Each Schnabelpercht carries certain items: one carries a basket on their back with children’s legs sticking out, another holds a huge pair of scissors that comes dangerously close to the person’s stomach. Fortunately, the scissors are only made of wood. But in the past – people were certain – the residents didn’t get off so lightly. If the Schnabelperchten found dirt in the house, the slob’s stomach was cut open and all the rubbish was stuffed inside.

Several brooms are also always present. With the broom, the Schnabelperchten sweep out evil, as the custom says.

Several centuries ago, however, this custom certainly also contributed to the general health of the village. During the time of gold mining, when many miners settled in the valley, cleanliness was not taken so seriously. Large families on farms, as well as miners living alone, prepared for the arrival of the Schnabelperchten with a thoroughly cleaned house. Thus, at least once a year, proper cleaning was done – which likely prevented many an illness.

How do we prepare for the visit of the Schnabelperchten?

Once everything is clean, the strange guests are joyfully awaited. The Schnabelperchten gladly accept a schnapps or two and a small monetary donation, which goes to charitable purposes. The particularly brave can also put the money directly into the beak. With good wishes for the new year – peace, health, and prosperity – the Schnabelperchten then make their way to the next house.

On January 5, 2026, the Schnabelperchten will also visit us at Hotel Alpina to do a proper cleaning, and on January 6, 2026, our grand Perchten procession will take place in Raurisertal.
