From 25.03. Until 03/29/2026 the annual Rauris Literature Days take place in the Rauris Valley
Where Words Move Mountains – once a year, the idyllic Rauris Valley becomes a meeting point for literature enthusiasts, writers, and creative minds from across the German-speaking world. The Rauris Literature Days are among Austria’s most renowned literary events – and have been for over 50 years.
A Place with History and Stories
Amidst old farmhouses, snow-capped peaks, and warm hospitality, great names of the literary scene and young talents gather. Whether it’s readings, discussion panels, author talks, or the awarding of the Rauris Literature Prize – everything here revolves around the power of language.
Every spring, Rauris once again transforms into a center of the Austrian literary scene.
Every year, authors, literature enthusiasts, and critics gather in the picturesque Rauris Valley to discuss language, stories, and thought worlds amidst the impressive mountain landscape of the Hohe Tauern National Park.
The Rauris Literature Days are considered one of the country’s most significant literary events and offer a diverse program: readings by renowned writers, exciting debates, and the awarding of the prestigious Rauris Literature Prize.
In the inspiring silence of the mountains, space is created for in-depth conversations and new perspectives – a celebration for all who love the power of words.
The readings take place at special locations in the valley, for example: in the Mesnerhaus, in the Haus der Begegnung, or in small, atmospheric halls, where you can get up close to literature.
Readings
Since their foundation in 1971, the Rauris Literature Days have annually presented authors from the entire German-speaking world and introduced them with their books. Since the mid-1990s, each time a theme has been at the center, which in contemporary literature
is particularly frequently and diversely addressed. The main events of the Literature Days take place in the evenings: readings and discussions about current books that can be related to the central theme.
Some of these readings are organized as collaborations with Salzburg literary event organizers:
with the Literaturhaus Salzburg, with the literature forum “Leselampe” and with the literary association “prolit”.
Since 1992, guests from foreign languages, countries, and cultures have also been regularly invited to the Literature Festival:
Authors who came to Salzburg from the Basque Country, Iceland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovenia, Bosnia, Albania, the Maghreb,
Israel and Korea, Mongolia and Malawi, presenting their texts.

From March 25 to 29, international authors will read from their latest books, and we also offer an extensive accompanying program, including five discussions with students and readings in schools.
This year, the Rauris Literature Prize goes to the well-known Swiss musician, singer, and composer Sophie Hunger, and the promotion prize to Andreas Neuhauser.
